Press Release: Winter 2017 Tiny Tots

Boulder’s Face Vocal Band Guest Stars with Inside the Orchestra

Denver, Colo (January 25, 2017) – For the first time ever, Inside the Orchestra will be joined by members of Face Vocal Band, the internationally acclaimed all-vocal rock band from Boulder. Mark Megibow, the vocal percussionist from Face, will guide the kids through a vocal percussion exercise. Singer Cody Qualls will rock out for a very special finale performance with the orchestra. Tiny Tots gets children truly “inside the orchestra” by seating the audience on the floor and surrounding them with our 30+ piece professional orchestra. Conductor Tom Jensen faces the audience and talks directly to the children throughout the performance, asking questions and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music, from thinking about how music makes them feel to getting on their feet and moving.  Inside the Orchestra will present Tiny Tots with the along with guest artists from Kim Robards Dance, Central City Opera, and Face.  They will also be joined by Neighborhood Music Stapleton (NMS) on February 18th at History Colorado and February 27th at Boettcher Concert Hall – NMS will be bringing their wildly popular instrument petting zoo to let kids get hands-on experience with instruments themselves. Tiny Tots concerts will take place February 8th through February 28th at locations all over metro Denver, including History Colorado, Boettcher Concert Hall, Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Temple Emanuel in Hilltop, CU South Denver in Parker, and the new Jewish Community Center in Boulder. Museum admission is complimentary for Tiny Tots attendees at The Wildlife Experience at CU South Denver and at History Colorado.

Tickets are a suggested $9.95/person, but no one is turned away – discounted and complimentary admissions for individuals and schools in need are offered.  Go to www.insidetheorchestra.org/tiny-tots-events/ for more information and to register and purchase tickets.

Designed for children six and under, this 45-minute program gives young ones the chance to interact with the conductor and the musicians and learn about the instruments in the process. The music selection, design, and scripting of Tiny Tots is geared to connect very young children with music – physically, emotionally, and mentally. They are treated to up-close-and-personal demos by various instruments, introduced to musical concepts, emotional understanding of the arts, and artistic expression. The music selection, design, and scripting of Tiny Tots is geared to connect very young children with music – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Kids, parents, grandparents, caregivers, and school groups are given the opportunity to dance, explore the instruments, and see world class performances designed for the age and stage of the kids in the audience. For 15-minutes after each concert, children are given the opportunity to meet the musicians, take a closer look at the instruments, and ask questions. This immersive and interactive experience is one of a kind. The winter series will feature music from Beethoven, Hindemith, Holst, and Justin Timberlake.

Inside the Orchestra

Inside the Orchestra is a local nonprofit organization that brings orchestra music to young children in the greater Denver metropolitan community, cultivating music appreciation and enhancing their education through engaging first-hand experiences. Each year, Inside the Orchestra brings orchestra music to over 20,000 children and caregivers throughout Colorado through different programs – Inside the Orchestra for Schools, Inside the Orchestra for Families, and Tiny Tots. The Inside the Orchestra for Schools program is an interactive 50-minute program geared toward students in K-8th grade, wherein a 14-16 piece orchestra performs in-school assemblies. Students sit surrounded by the professional orchestra, as the conductor faces the audience and engages them throughout the performance, asking questions and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them. The audience is treated to up-close-and-personal demos by the strings, woodwinds, horns and percussion. Scripting is designed to not only introduce music concepts, but to tie to curriculum that children are studying in other subjects. In-classroom follow-up by the conductor and supplementary lesson plans are provided as well.
