Songs about Rain

We have been loving all this rain! We enjoy splashing in puddles, drawing with wet chalk, and looking for earthworms. We also love to sing songs about rain. Here are some of our favorites.

“I Hear Thunder” is sung to the tune of “Frère Jaques” (and also “Where is Thumbkin?”).  When you sing the first two lines, tap your hands on a hard surface to make loud thunder sounds.  When you sing “pitter patter raindrops,” gently tap your fingers on your body to make soft raindrop sounds.

I hear thunder, I hear thunder

Hark don’t you? Hark don’t you?

Pitter patter raindrops, pitter patter raindrops

I’m wet through, so are you.

“If All of the Raindrops Were Lemon Drops and Gum Drops” is such a fun song to sing. Even pre-talkers may want to join in on the “ah ah ah ah” part!

If all of the raindrops were lemondrops and gumdrops,

oh what a rain that would be!

I’d stand outside with my mouth open wide,

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!

If all of the raindrops were lemondrops and gumdrops,

oh what a rain that would be!

“Rain Rain, Go Away” Are your little ones tired of the rain? Sing this one! It’s great for name recognition for babies, and it’s also a fun way for little ones to learn caregivers’ names.

Rain, rain, go away.

Come again some other day.

Little ___________ wants to play

Rain, rain go away.
