“It was perfect.” Inside the Orchestra Partners with Denver Center for the Performing Arts for Tiny Tots

Winter 2018 Tiny Tots Series

February 8TH Through March 10TH

Tiny Tots: Immersive Arts Programs for All to Enjoy

Denver, Colo (February 13, 2018) – For the first time ever, Inside the Orchestra will be joined by teaching artists from Denver Center for the Performing Arts Education Department (DCPA) for Tiny Tots. Tiny Tots gets children truly “inside the orchestra” by seating the audience on the floor and surrounding them with our 30+ piece professional orchestra. DCPA Teaching Artist Heather Nicolson is the tour guide for Tiny Tots, talking to the children throughout the program, asking questions, getting them engaged, and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music, from thinking about how music makes them feel to getting on their feet and moving.  Inside the Orchestra will present Tiny Tots along with guest artists from Kim Robards Dance, Central City Opera, and DCPA. Thanks to partnerships with Neighborhood Music and Twinkle Together, all Tiny Tots programs will include the wildly popular instrument petting zoos and DIY instrument making stations to let kids get hands-on experience with instruments themselves. Tiny Tots concerts will take place February 8th through March 10th at locations all over metro Denver, including History Colorado, Boettcher Concert Hall, Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Temple Emanuel in Hilltop, CU South Denver in Parker, and the new Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. Museum admission is complimentary for Tiny Tots attendees at CU South Denver and at History Colorado.

Tickets are a suggested $9.95/person, but no one is turned away – discounted and complimentary admissions for individuals and schools in need are offered.  Go to www.insidetheorchestra.org/tiny-tots-events/ for more information and to register and purchase tickets.

Designed for children six and under, Tiny Tots is a 45-minute program that gives young ones the chance to interact with the conductor and the musicians and learn about the instruments in the process. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music, from thinking about how music makes them feel to getting on their feet and moving. They are treated to up-close-and-personal demos by various instruments, introduced to musical concepts, emotional understanding of the arts, and artistic expression. The music selection, design, and scripting of Tiny Tots is geared to connect very young children with music – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Children are also encouraged to take a closer look at the instruments and ask questions of the musicians after the concert has concluded. Every Tiny Tots event includes guest performers from some of our cultural partner organizations. The winter series features music from Disney to Bach, Gilbert & Sullivan to Prokofiev.

Tiny Tots was named in Denver Westword’s “Best of Denver” 2017. The experience is one-of-a-kind!

Inside the Orchestra

Inside the Orchestra is a local nonprofit organization that brings orchestra music to young children in the greater Denver metropolitan community, cultivating music appreciation and enhancing their education through engaging first-hand experiences. Each year, ISO brings orchestra music to over 20,000 children and caregivers throughout Colorado through different programs – Inside the Orchestra for Schools, Inside the Orchestra for Families, and Tiny Tots. The Inside the Orchestra for Schools program is an interactive 50-minute program geared toward students in K-8th grade, wherein a 14-16 piece orchestra performs in-school assemblies. Students sit surrounded by the professional orchestra, as the conductor faces the audience and engages them throughout the performance, asking questions and teaching them about the music as it is playing around them. The audience is treated to up-close-and-personal demos by the strings, woodwinds, horns and percussion. Scripting is designed to not only introduce music concepts, but to tie to curriculum that children are studying in other subjects. In-classroom follow-up by the conductor and supplementary lesson plans are provided as well.
